The category B licence is your first step towards independence on the road. At TSILIS Driving School, in the centre of Serres, we prepare you for both theory and practice with modern training vehicles and experienced instructors.
What category B covers
Category B is the most common driving licence in Greece. It allows you to drive cars with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kg and up to 8 passenger seats besides the driver — that means regular passenger cars as well as many small commercial vehicles.
A car licence also covers you for mopeds and light quadricycles (category AM), as well as trailers up to 750 kg. If you are considering a larger motorcycle, take a look at our motorcycle licence categories.
From the age of 17 you can obtain a category B licence and drive with a mandatory accompanying driver: someone over 25 who has held a licence for at least 5 years. The vehicle carries the distinctive «Σ» sign and accompanied driving applies until you turn 18, when you can drive on your own.
It is an ideal way to gain real road experience a year earlier. At our school we guide you step by step through the whole process, from the lessons to the exams.
The process step by step
From enrolment to collecting your licence, the journey is simple and we handle all the paperwork for you:
Enrolment at the school and document collection
Application submission and learner's permit issuance
Theory lessons and online mock tests
Theory exam on the Ministry's system
Practical driving lessons
Practical exam and licence issuance
Theory lessons
Theory training for category B includes 21 mandatory lessons covering the Greek Highway Code, road signage, safe and defensive driving, as well as basic mechanics and first aid knowledge.
Lessons take place in our classroom in Serres with modern teaching aids, and as a member you get access to online mock tests so you can practise anytime from your phone or computer.
Practical training includes at least 20 driving lessons in modern training cars — with manual or automatic gearbox, depending on your choice. If you take your exam in an automatic, your licence is valid only for automatic vehicles.
Your instructor adapts the programme to your pace: we start in quiet areas and gradually move on to the city centre, parking, night driving and out-of-town routes, so you sit the exams with real experience and confidence.
The exams
The theory exam is taken electronically, with multiple-choice questions on the Ministry of Transport's system. Once you pass, the practical exam is scheduled in real road conditions, in the presence of an examiner.
At TSILIS you run mock tests for both stages, so on exam day you know exactly what to expect.
Required documents
To issue your car licence you will need the following — we take care of collecting and submitting them:
ID card or passport
Tax number (AFM) and proof of address
Passport-style photos
Health certificates (pathologist, ophthalmologist)
At least 21 theory lessons and 20 practical driving lessons are required. If you need extra practice, we add lessons based on your progress.
How long does it take to get a car licence?
With a steady pace of lessons, most candidates complete theory and practice within a few months. The exact time depends on your availability and the scheduled exam dates.
Can I get a licence for an automatic car?
Yes — you can train and take your exam in a car with an automatic gearbox. In that case your licence is valid only for automatic vehicles.
From what age can I get a car licence?
From 18 for independent driving, or from 17 with mandatory accompaniment by an experienced driver over 25 and the «Σ» sign on the vehicle.
What happens if I fail the exams?
You can retake the exam. We prepare you again with targeted lessons and mock tests on the areas you found difficult.
